The Enlightenment
The
Enlightenment era is one of the most important periods. The principal features
of the time are the spirit of criticism, the faith in reason, the trust in
science and the desire of teaching.
They talked
about different authors:
Voltaire:
was a French author, one of the most important figures of the century and one
of the main thinkers of the time. His major work was The Treaty of Tolerance
(1763) and The Philosophical Dictionary (1764).
Locke: one
of the most important thinkers of his time. He proposes education as a game
that should be easy, solid, and directed to the feelings through a direct
knowledge of the purpose.
Rousseau:
considered a great Enlightenment thinker. Jean-Jacques believed in natural
education, which means the education should promote and encourage qualities
such as happiness, spontaneity and inquisitiveness associated with childhood.
Luzuriaga:
one of the Spanish historians of education that contributed to the development
of the investigation, and he was considered one of the representatives of the
New School’s movement. Education is that function of society by which it is a
question of developing or facilitating the plan of man’s life and introducing
him to the social and cultural world.
In this
period, Enlightenment, have many thinkers that contribute to education.
